With the 38th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected cornerback Xavien Howard from Baylor.
The Dolphins traded up from the 42nd overall spot to make this pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars originally held the 38th pick, but the moved up to the 36th spot to select linebacker Myles Jack. The Baltimore Ravens were briefly in possession of the 38th pick, but sent it to the Dolphins, who gave Baltimore the 42nd position and the team's 4th round pick.
Miami started the Draft on Thursday night by selecting Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, a player who was rated much higher on the draft board than the Dolphins' pick, but fell during the draft. Tunsil had a video be released on his Twitter account, during an apparent hack, which appeared to show him smoking marijuana. The video is reportedly two-yeas old, and Tunsil had acknowledged that it was him in the video and that he made a mistake, but it cost him in terms of draft position.
The Dolphins will now use Tunsil to upgrade their offensive line. They could slide him into the starting lineup at either tackle position or as the team's left guard. If he takes the right tackle spot, Ja'Wuan James could move to guard, while if Tunsil plays left tackle, Pro Bowl tackle Branden Albert could move inside to guard.
Miami is next scheduled to be on the clock with the 73rd pick, a third-round selection.
