Miami Dolphins all-time second-round draft picks

New, comments

As we head toward the 2016 NFL Draft, we take a look back at all of the second-round picks for the Miami Dolphins.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Draft is just eight days away, with everyone trying to figure out exactly which prospect will be selected where and by which team. Will we see another trade in the top ten picks, following the example by the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles, who swapped first rounders with Miami moving to the 13th pick and the Eagles jumping up to the 8th spot, and the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams, with a bunch of picks being moves in a trade that saw Tennessee drop back to the 15th spot while the Rams moves all the way to the 1st selection?

While we are all looking for the next members of the Dolphins, we are also taking a look back at the Draft history for Miami. Yesterday, we started this look back at Miami history with the first round, today we move to the second round. This is where the Draft history becomes a little harder to define, because of things like 26 teams being in the NFL-AFL common draft in 1976 compared to 32 teams in the league now. There are also things like the 2008 NFL Draft only having 31 picks in the first round, due to the New England Patriots forfeiting their first-round pick due to Spygate, and the 1966 AFL Draft, the final pure AFL only selection process, when there were only nine teams in the league (and the Oakland Raiders deferred their pick through the first six rounds).

(Coincidentally, the Patriots also have to forfeit their first-round pick this year, this time due to Deflategate.)

Miami selected one Hall of Fame player in the second round, the 1980 pick of Dwight Stephenson with the 40th overall selection.

Below you will find all of the Miami Dolphins' second-round draft picks, listed by overall pick number. Hall of Fame players (Dwight Stephenson) are in italics.
