The Emerald City does not look like it is going to treat the Miami Dolphins well. The South Florida franchise heads to the Pacific Northwest to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season. The league announced the full schedule for the regular season on Thursday night and Las Vegas immediately began working their opening odds for Week 1.
And they do not like the Dolphins' chances in Seattle.
The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, according to a report from ESPN, opened their betting line with Miami a 7.5 point underdog to the Seahawks. That ties them with the Cleveland Browns (at Philadelphia Eagles) and the San Diego Chargers (at Kansas City Chiefs) for the longest odds in Week 1.
It really is not much of a surprise, finding Miami that far behind the Seahawks. The Dolphins are coming off a 6-10 season, a year in which they finished last in the AFC East division. Seattle, meanwhile, were 10-6 on the year, second in the NFC West, claiming the final Wildcard slot in the conference. They then went on to beat the third-seeded Minnesota Vikings to advance fro the Wildcard round to the Divisional round of the Playoffs before losing to the eventual conference champion Carolina Panthers.
Seattle should rightfully be installed as the favorite, though 7.5 is a huge number when it comes to the NFL. The question marks still surrounding Miami, including how their coaching staff will coalesce in their first season, what kind of offensive and defensive systems will be installed with the team, and how the turnover of players, both outgoing and incoming, will effect the team in 2016, all impact how the oddsmakers currently look at the Dolphins.
