Phinsider Flash Poll: Would you have given Olivier Vernon $17 Million to keep him?

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

With defensive end Olivier Vernon set to hit free agency this offseason they decided to give him the transition tag a couple of weeks back. The Transition tag would have assured that the Dolphins could have kept Vernon if another team signed him to a deal and the Dolphins decided to match that amount. Then came the deal with Mario Williams. With Williams on board and the decision by the team to hold on to Cameron Wake the team decided that Olivier became expendable. The team still will likely need to sign another defensive end but will look for someone much, MUCH cheaper than what Vernon signed for.

This afternoon came the news that Olivier Vernon would play for a team outside of Miami for the first time in his life when he signed with the New York Giants. The Giants are apparently much higher on Vernon then the Dolphins seeing as they gave him a huge deal to the tune of 5 years for 85 million dollars giving him a yearly average of 17 million dollars per.

Many Dolphins fans are disappointed to lose Vernon but would you have paid that kind of money for him given what you have seen from him?
