The Splash Zone - 3/1/16: Deadline To Use Franchise Tag Ends Today

Teams have until 4 p.m. today to use their franchise tag. The Dolphins want to retain Olivier Vernon, who is the most likely candidate to receive the franchise tag if the teams chooses to use it. They could also use it on Lamar Miller, the team seems to value Vernon more. Vernon is young and still has some upside and will command some big money when he hits free agency.

The Dolphins on Tuesday could lock up defensive end Olivier Vernon for the 2016 season, but it won't come cheap. NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. to use their franchise or transition tag. Vernon is the only Dolphins player receiving serious buzz for a tag designation.
