We have finally reached Super Bowl 50, with the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers facing off for the right to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Will the game end with future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning getting his second championship ring and (possibly) riding off into the sunset? Will the newly crowned league MVP, quarterback Cam Newton, cap an outstanding season with the first Super Bowl championship in Carolina Panthers history?
The Broncos come into the game with the top ranked defense in the league, allowing just 283.1 yards per game. They are also the top team against the pass, allowing 199.6 yards per game through the air, while being the third ranked rush defense, allowing 83.6 yards per game. The Broncos defense is fourth in scoring, allowing 18.5 points a game.
The Panthers, meanwhile, are not far behind the Broncos, with the sixth overall defense, giving up 322.9 yards per game, the 11th ranked pass defense, allowing 234.5 yards per game, and the fourth ranked rush defense, giving up 88.4 yards per game. The 19.3 points per game allowed ranks them sixth in scoring defense.
On offense, the Panthers have the overall lead with the 11th ranked offense, gaining 366.9 yards per game compared to the 16th ranked Broncos offense, gaining 355.5 yards per game. Carolina's pass offense, however, falls to 24th in the league, gaining 224.3 yards per game through the air, while Denver's aerial attack is 14th in the league with 248.1 yards per game.
