Jay Ajayi named AFC Offensive Player of the Week (again...)

Ho-hum, just another 200-yard day for J-Train.

Jay Ajayi has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 6 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, running for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

No, wait, that already happened. Here we go...

Jay Ajayi has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 7 performance against the Buffalo Bills, running for 214 yards.

Nope, that, too, has already happened. Ahhh...I see...

Jay Ajayi has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 16 performance against the Buffalo Bills, running for 206 yards and a touchdown.

That makes sense.

Ajayi once again carved up the Bills defense, picking up 6.4 yards per attempt on Saturday, giving him his second-straight 200-yard rushing performance against a team that was, at one point, the top rushing defense in the league. Ajayi has 1,213 yards on the ground this season, with 420 of them, or a little over one-third, coming against the Bills.

After becoming just the fourth running back, along side O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell, and Ricky Williams, to rush for 200 yards in back-to-back weeks, Ajayi became the fourth player to have three 200-yard performances in a single season, joining Simpson, Campbell, and Tiki Barber. Ajayi is fourth on the Dolphins’ single-season rushing yardage list with one game to play; he needs 46 yards to surpass Delvin Williams’ 1978 total and reach third place. Ricky Williams has the top two spots, including his franchise record 1,853 yards in 2002.

This is the second-straight week Miami has had a player win the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, with quarterback Matt Moore winning it in Week 15 for his four-touchdown performance over the New York Jets.
