According to several media outlets, including the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Mike Pouncey has been placed on IR, ending his 2016 season.
Here’s an excerpt from the Sun-Sentinel:
Pouncey, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, rehabilitated with the team's trainers and saw a specialist on a weekly basis, but league sources say it was determined that playing him at this point could risk his long-term health.
The question becomes if off-season surgery will be necessary again for the Pro Bowl center, and what the potential time table for return would be. The Miami Dolphins unquestionably have a tricky decision to make regarding Pouncey in the off-season. The front office must evaluate Pouncey’s longevity and long-term health, the potential talent drop-off should they go in a different direction (and what money and/or draft capital we’d have to use to replace him), and salary cap implications.
Pouncey’s departure to IR opens the door for Brandon Doughty to join the 53 man roster as Matt Moore’s backup QB. When I spoke to Kevin Nogle this morning, he said, “If there is a second move today, that would be (Dion) Jordan activated. Otherwise, he is on IR for the rest of the year.”
Stay tuned.
