NFL London games 2017 announced: Saints at Dolphins in Week 3 or 4

NFL: International Series-New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL has announced their 2017 slate of London games, and, as previously reported, the Miami Dolphins will be hosting a home game across the pond next year. This will be the fourth time Miami has been in London, and the third time they will be the home team.

Miami started the London branch of the league’s International Series, regular season games played outside the United States, in 2007 when they served as the home team against the New York Giants; the Giants won the game 13-10. The Dolphins then returned to London 2014 as the away team in a 38-14 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

In 2015, Miami again served as the home team in a 27-14 loss to the New York Jets.

The Dolphins will go to London in 2017 in order to complete the league’s unofficial requirement of hosting a London game within five years of hosting a Super Bowl. The Dolphins will host Super Bowl LIV (54) in February 2020 as the championship game of the league’s 100th anniversary season. The Dolphins had volunteered to host the 2015 game in London as a part of their efforts to host a Super Bowl, but the league has determined they needed to host another before Super Bowl LIV.

The Dolphins will be hosting the New Orleans Saints in either Week 3 or 4 next year (September 24 or October 1). The Jacksonville Jaguars, who will be serving as a home team in London for the fifth straight season, will host the Baltimore Ravens in whichever week Miami and the Saints are not playing.

The league will also have the Minnesota Vikings “at” the Cleveland Browns on the London schedule and the Los Angeles Rams serving as the home team against the Arizona Cardinals. Those games will be scheduled with one in Week 7 and the other in Week 8.

Teams typically receive their bye week following a London game.

The Week 3 and 4 games will be played in Wembley Stadium, while the Week 7 and 8 games will be in Twickenham Stadium.

The league’s International Series will also include a Mexico City game again in 2017, with the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders scheduled to make that trip, according to a report from ESPN.
