The Miami Dolphins announced the team waived cornerback Bene Benwikere. The team acquired Benwikere off waivers from the Carolina Panthers this year, but he never made an appearance with the club. He started the first four game this season for the Panthers, but was waived by the team in early October.
The Dolphins had hoped Benwikere would provide depth to a secondary that has been dealing with injuries all season. However, he never was active on gameday.
With Carolina, Benwikere tallied 10 tackles, one interception, and four passes defensed before being waived. He played for the Panthers for three seasons, from 2014 to this year, with 27 games played including 14 starts. The Panthers drafted Benwikere out of San Jose State in the fifth-round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Dolphins activated cornerback Chris Culliver from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, making Benwikere expendable on the Miami roster.
