Keys to week 5

1-3 is about where I thought we would be at the beginning of the season. I was just hopeful for some more progress on the offensive side of the ball. As CT said very well: Suckage Article , I felt we would struggle simply because we don't have elite talent in too many spots. That being said, I was still hopeful we could steal one game from the 3 tough playoff teams we have faced and was hoping for a much better showing in our lone win.

All that being said, this is the make or break part of the schedule with 4 straight home games. We want to not be looking at the 2017 draft in November, then we must come out of this part at 3-1 and get back to .500.

Here are my keys to the game --

1) Weather issues?? Not sure what will happen or where the game will be played or when it will be played. Which young team handles the uncertain time/place better. Unfortunately, I think this advantage goes to Tennessee as it negates most of the homefield advantage Miami would have had. (On a much more important side note, I hope all the fans in South Florida are safe).

2) Running game. Defensively we actually did better than I thought we would have vs. the Bengals. We must make Mariota throw the ball on obvious downs to have a chance to win. Tennessee is a very good rushing team and we....well we need to improve. We must play better.

2b) Offensive running game. We are a joke in time of possession every game. We must keep the ball with running. My suggestion would be to go under center. I think it opens up the play action much better and we run it better. If we refuse to do this, the next suggestion would be to do more gap-scheme runs. We pretty much suck at Zone blocking and running. Run some traps or draws to take advantage of defensive linemen that are aggressive. It will also slow the pass rush down.

3) QB Battle. Tannehill has been...inconsistent to say the least. He needs to be better this week. My suggestions (not that Gase is tuning in), would be to use play action on early downs. Use screens on 2nd downs (to the RB, not the crap screens on the edges) and get him out of the pocket. I think he must have 2-3 dialed up shots to Stills/Parker from a roll out.

4) Maxwell House. He needs to play better (although I am not sure why he was benched for Lippett...). With Howard likely out this week, he needs to play well. I honestly think he is playing as a solid #2 corner (I never felt he would be a dominant guy).

5) Sims. I really like this guy and hope we figure out a good way to use him. My thoughts would be in play action.

6) Rashad Jones keeps playing at All-pro level. Move him around and let him wreak havoc. The guy is awesome (on that note, please PAY THE MAN NOW, before you can't afford him this offseason).

7) Fast start...For about 5 years now we don't realize the game is starting when it does. Can we please get off to a quick start.

I hope all the fans in Miami stay safe.
