The Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs kicks off today when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Foxborough Massachusetts to take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots earned their spot in today's matchup by winning the AFC East behind their 12 and 4 record that was also good enough for the second seed in the AFC that included a bye week. The Chiefs arrived here by way of their victory last week over the Houston Texans. The Chiefs 11 and 5 regular season record was good enough for second in the AFC West, earning them one of two wild card spots and the 5th seed in the AFC. The Chiefs traveled to Houston last week as the Texans were the AFC South champions with a 9 and 7 record. Kansas City dismantled the home team by a score of 30 to 0.
The Kansas City Chiefs have not won on the Patriots home field in their previous five meetings there, going back to 1990. Today could prove to be different with the Chiefs formidable pass rush. Kansas City is also currently the NFL's hottest team, winning their last 11 games in a row, including last week's playoff victory. Further hampering New Englands chances today is the fact that quarterback Tom Brady may be without two of his favorite targets. Even if tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee/back) and wideout Julian Edelman (foot), who are both listed as questionable for today's game, do suit up to play this afternoon, both figures to be somewhat hampered with lingering injuries.
