Dolphins place Jay Ajayi on Injured Reserve, Designated Return list

The Miami Dolphins have placed running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve, designating him for return.

The Miami Dolphins had to make a roster move this afternoon after being awarded quarterback Logan Thomas on waivers earlier in the day. To make that space, the team announced they placed rookie running back Jay Ajayi on the Reserve/Injured (Designated for Return) list.  The move shelves Ajayi for the first eight weeks of the season, with him unable to practice with the team until after Week 6.

Ajayai suffered a broken rib in the team's fourth Preseason game. A fifth round pick of the Dolphins this year, Ajayi was highly touted coming out of college, but concerns about a knee injury, and the lack of cartilage in the knee, led to him to fall back into the fifth round. The Dolphins are hoping he can develop into the primary reserve for Lamar Miller, but injuries have derailed the early portion of his rookie campaign.

As a junior at Boise State, Ajayi wan for 1,823 yards on 347 carries with 28 touchdowns. He recorded 3,796 yard on 678 carries, a 5.6 yards per attempt average, with 50 touchdowns in three years at Boise State.
