After the 2014 NFL season's Week 1, the Miami Dolphins celebrated the selection of running back Knowshon Moreno as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. After the 2015 season's Week 1, the team is again celebrating, this time for wide receiver and punt returner Jarvis Landry, who was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Landry scored the game-winning touchdown on a 69-yard punt return in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
Landy's touchdown was the final score in a 17-10 contest. Landry also tied his career high with eight receptions during the game, gaining 53 yards.
The Dolphins last had a player claim the Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 8 of the 2012 season, when defensive end Olivier Vernon was given the honor. Counting Landry, the Dolphins have had players earn the award 14 times, including three times each by kicker Dan Carpenter and punter Matt Turk, twice by kicker Olindo Mare, and a single time by wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr., wide receiver Wes Welker, and punter Dale Hatcher.
Landry's punt return was the first such touchdown scored by the Dolphins since 2012, when Marcus Thigpen returned a punt 72-yards for a score.
