The Baltimore Ravens fell 19-13 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, starting their season 0-1 on an Denver interception of a pass from Joe Flacco to tight end Crockett Gillmore in the endzone. The loss may prove bigger for the Ravens than even just a 1 in the "L-column" of the standings. In the fourth quarter, linebacker Terrell Suggs was carted off the field for what was described as a "foot injury." It was later announced that Suggs had torn his Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the 2015 season.
Suggs, the 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and six time Pro Bowl selection, previously tore his Achilles tendon in the 2012 offseason, returning from the injury five months later. Suggs was third on the Ravens in tackles last season and second in sacks.
The Miami Dolphins will play the Suggs-less Ravens in Week 13 of the season. The Ravens have been considered potential AFC North division winners or in the AFC Wildcard race for this year. How that changes without Suggs will have to be seen over the next few weeks. Za'Darius Smith is listed behind Suggs on the team's depth chart.
