Jason Pierre-Paul injures hand in fireworks accident

New York Giants defensive end suffered "severe hand injury" during 4th of July celebration.

Fireworks on the 4th of July always seem to land people in the hospital. According to a report first broken by Andy Slater of 930-AM WINZ in Miami, that group of injuries from the 2015 edition of Independence Day celebrations includes New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who "severely injured" his hand. According to a report from TMZ, the injuries include "some of his fingers and his thumb."

Pierre-Paul is originally from Deerfield Beach, Florida, about 40 miles north of Miami. He was a star at the University of South Florida in 2009 befor ebeing a first-round selection of the Giants in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was a 2011 and 2012 Pro Bowl selection, as well as a First-Team All-Pro in 2011. He was a member of the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI champion team during the 2011-2012 season.

The exact extent of the injuries is unknown, and JPP is reportedly still meeting with doctors. The injuries are not expected to be career threatening.

The Miami Dolphins face the Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 14 of the upcoming season.
