Yesterday the Chicago Bears announced the signing of former Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas to a one year contract. The Miami Dolphins originally spent a second round pick on Thomas back in 2011. Thomas was, at the time he was drafted, coming off of an outstanding senior campaign at Kansas State having rushed for 1,585 yards with a 5.3 yard average and 19 rushing touchdowns.
Unfortunately for Thomas and the Dolphins and Dolphins fans he underwhelmed at running back at the NFL level in his first four seasons. In four years with Miami Thomas rushed for 1,480 yards and 13 touchdowns, not reaching in four years the numbers he had previously put up in only a single college season.
Thomas was originally singed to a four year deal as a rookie but cut loose by the club last off season as part of their final cuts. He was then only re-signed to the club after a season ending injury to Knowshon Moreno. Miami chose to not re-sign Thomas this off season, choosing instead to go with Lamar Miller, draftee Jay Ajayi, Damien Williams and LaMichael James as they head towards training camp.
