The Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers will hold joint training camp practices this summer. The practices are scheduled to take place on August 19 and the 20th. The joint practices will take place at Wofford College in Spartanburgh, South Carolina. The practices will precede the Dolphins and Panthers preseason contest to take place in Charlotte on August 22nd. The game with the Panthers will be the Dolphins second of four preseason contests. All joint practices will be open to the public.
Legendary, former head coach Don Shula held joint practices with various teams throughout his time at the helm of the Dolphins. The team has not held joint practices in over a decade when they practiced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Dave Wannstedt. The Panthers had previously held joint practices at the same facility with the Detroit Lions in 2000.
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said of the joint practices, "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Philbin and we're excited to be working with the Dolphins. The Dolphins do some things differently on offense, defense and special teams so it will be an opportunity to work on all three phases of the game in controlled situations with really good tempo. Our players will seem some different looks and it will be a couple of days of quality practice for us.".
