Brandon Fields reworks deal to stay with Dolphins

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Fields was entering the 2015 season set to earn 7.18 million dollars over the next two seasons. With the Dolphins set to spend big money on Ndamukong Suh and needing cap space to sign other free agents and the upcoming draft picks the team had set it's sights to the current roster to clear space. Some early cuts had been made but there were no doubt many other cuts or contracts negations set to occur. Fields name was one of the many current players who's names had surfaced in recent weeks as a possible cut or restructure.

The Dolphins are said to have listed Fields as an upcoming cut if a favorable deal could not be reached. Luckily for fans of Fields both sides came to an agreement today after only a 48 hour period of discussions. The new deal parameters are not yet available but no doubt have a cap hit much lower than the 3.1 million Brandon was set to earn in 2015.

Fields is 30 years old going in to this upcoming season and coming off one of his worst years as a Dolphin averaging 38.6 net yards per punt in 2014.
