NFL Draft order 2016: Dolphins in top ten heading into final week

The Miami Dolphins have a top ten draft pick heading into Week 17.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Draft is over four months away, but the final order will be set in just four days. The Miami Dolphins head into Week 17 of the season with a 5-10 record, putting them in the top ten in draft picks for next year's selection process.  Two weeks ago, the Dolphins were sitting in the ninth position at 5-8, then last week, after another loss, they fell to the eighth position. Where do they stand now? Exactly where the trend says they should: seventh after another loss.

The full draft order is below, working through the first 20 picks based on the current record for each team, with the worst record claiming the first overall pick. The 12 projected Playoff teams then make up the final 12 positions, which will be determined by the order in which they lose in the Playoffs, with the eventual Super Bowl champion selecting 32nd. Teams with identical records are ordered based on strength of schedule, then conference record, then division record. Finally, the league will use a coin toss at the NFL Scouting Combine to determine who gets the better pick if everything else is equal. The teams with the same record then rotate in each round. For example, the Titans with the first overall pick would pick second in the second round, with the Cleveland Browns moving forward to the first pick. Both teams have 3-12 record at this point.

The Dolphins find themselves in a group of three teams at 5-10, sitting between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens. Jacksonville picks sixth, as of right now, with the Dolphins seventh and the Ravens eighth. In the second round, the Dolphins will move up to the sixth position, the Ravens seventh, and the Jaguars eighth.
