The Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens seem to be in similar situations: teams people expected to be better than they are. Both the Ravens and Dolphins, before the season, were expected to at least challenge in their respective divisional races, while fighting it out for a Wildcard position at the same time. Instead, the Ravens are 4-7 and in third place in the AFC North, five games behind the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Dolphins are 4-7 and in last place in the AFC East, six games out of the New England Patriots' lead.
The two underperforming teams face off this weekend in Miami, with both just trying to put together a respectable finish to an otherwise disappointing year. What makes it even more disappointing is that both teams have talent. They should not be where they are.
And that's this afternoon's question: Which Baltimore player would steal you off of their roster to add to the Dolphins' roster? Also - there's a catch. The question is off the Ravens' roster - not Ravens' player. Baltimore has been crushed by injuries this year, and the 17 players they have on Injured Reserve are not on their roster, meaning players like Joe Flacco, Breshard Perriman, Terrell Suggs, Steve Smith, and Justin Forsett are not eligible answers for this question.
Personally, there are two players I would immediately consider for the Dolphins, both on defense. Miami has struggled this year with linebacker play - both disappointing performances and injuries - which makes C.J. Mosley a perfect target. The Dolphins could absolutely stick Mosley into the middle linebacker position, making Kelvin Sheppard a reserve linebacker, and, given Mosley is only 23 years old, they would have their answer in the middle of the defense for years to come.
My other consideration could be called a rental. Miami lost Cameron Wake for the season to an Achilles' tear, and, while Olivier Vernon has come on a little over the past couple of weeks, they still need to generate more pass rush. Quinton Coples could be that answer, but he may need some time to shake off the struggles he had as an outside linebacker for the New York Jets. Someone who could come in and fill the role immediately, giving Miami a pass rush specialist would be Elvis Dumervil. The 31 year old is currently playing outside linebacker in his third year with the Ravens, but he played defensive end for the Broncos for five of his six years there. He has six sacks this year, which would not replace Wake's total (7.0 on the year and still 10th in the league despite only playing in 7 games), but it could be the threat Miami needs to finish off the year.
At the end of the day, I will pick Mosley over Dumervil based solely on the age, giving Miami their middle linebacker for the future. Where would you look? What player would you steal from the Ravens' roster?
