The Miami Dolphins have activated running back Jay Ajayi, the team announced Saturday afternoon. Ajayi was a fifth round pick for the Dolphins this year, selecting him out of Boise State. In 38 career games at Boise State, Ajayi ran the ball 678 times for 3,796 yards (5.56 yards per carry average) with 50 touchdowns. He also caught 73 passes for 771 yards and four touchdowns.

Last season, Ajayi rushed for 1,823 yards with 32 touchdowns. He also recorded 535 receiving yards, making him the first player in NCAA FBS history with 1,800 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards. He rushed for 16 carries for 91 yards for the Dolphins in the preseason before landing on the IR list with broken ribs.

Ajayi was placed on the Reserve/Injured (Designated for Return) list at the start of the season, giving his ribs time to full heal. He began practicing with the team two weeks ago. This was the first week in which he was eligible to be activated. Miami had to activate him today if they intended to use him in Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.

To make space for Ajayi, the Dolphins waived center Sam Brenner.
