The Miami Dolphins over the weekend officially placed defensive end Cameron Wake on injured reserve, ending his season after he tore his Achilles tendon during the team's Thursday night contest against the New England Patriots. Miami signed offensive tackle Ulrick John off the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad to fill the roster spot.
Wake's season ends with seven sacks, which has him currently second in the league in sacks. He also has four forced fumbles this season, tied for the most in the league. Wake did not have a sack through the team's first four games, then exploded with four in Week 6, two move in Week 7, and one in Week 8 before the injury. The seven sacks this season will be his lowest season total since his first year in the league in 2009, when he recorded 5.5 sacks. He has 70.0 career sacks, second most in team history, trailing just the 131.0 sacks by Jason Taylor.
John was drafted by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He attended Georgia State, where he played left tackle.
Miami faces the Buffalo Bills this weekend, with Derrick Shelby likely to take Wake's spot as the starting left defensive end. Terrence Fede will likely see additional playing time as well.
