The Miami Dolphins have added a new title to special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi's resume on Monday. The team announced they are naming him to the position of assistant head. Officially, he will be the "assistant head coach/special teams coordinator" for the Dolphins for the remainder of the season.
Rizzi seemed like a logical choice to take the interim head coach position for the Dolphins, as he was the only member of Joe Philbin's staff with head coaching experience. Rizzi spent three years as the head coach at New Haven and one year as the head coach at Rhode Island. He has been the special teams coordinator for Miami since 2010.
Miami chose to promote tight ends coach Dan Campbell to the interim head coach position last week after firing Philbin. Since the move, Campbell has moved several assistant coaches into new positions with the team, as well as firing defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, as well as hiring Al Saunders as a senior offensive assistant.
The Dolphins face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, looking to end a three-game losing streak.
