One among the many things that Dolphins fans have been calling for has been the team to address the kicking position after another inconsistent season from starting place kicker Caleb Sturgis. Well if the tweet from former Arkansas Razorbacks kicker Zach Hocker is accurate the Dolphins have brought in some competition for Sturgis this off season. Stugis managed to hit 29 of his 37 attempts this past season for an average of 78.4 percent and in 2013 hit 26 of 34 attempts for a 76.5 percent average.
Hocker Tweeted out yesterday "New team, same dream. Happy to say I'm officially a Miami Dolphin. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.". If and when Hocker is announced by the team as a signing it will no doubt be for a "futures contract". A futures contract for those wondering just means that a player is being signed for the upcoming season even though the season has not officially begun. This option is only available to players that are not on a teams roster at the end of the season.
Zach Hocker was originally drafted last off season by the Redskins in the 7th round. Hocker was eventually beaten out by veteran kicker Kai Forbath in the pre-season. Hocker kicked for four seasons with Arkansas, breaking the teams all time scoring record. You can find Kocker's NFL combine information HERE.
