The Sunday NFC divisional round features two 12 and 4 teams the NFC East winning Dallas Cowboys who will travel to take on the NFC North winning Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Leading in to this game much of the talk has centered around the legendary match-up between these two franchises 47 years ago. The two clubs met at a frozen solid Lambeau in late December of 1966 for the NFL title game, a game that had a temperature at kick off of minus 13 degrees. The game would later become known as just the "Ice Bowl". The Packers took that game by a score of 21 to 17 and have high hopes that history will repeat itself. This will be the first time that these two team have met in the playoffs in Green Bay since that game nearly a half a century ago.
The Cowboys are probably somewhat relieved that the temperature at kick off on Sunday is only expected to be in the low 20's. The Cowboys are hoping that more recent history is on their side having seen Dallas win the last 4 playoff match-up's between the two clubs. The Cowboys are also the only undefeated team on the road in the NFL this season going 8 and 0 behind 34.4 points per game. The Cowboys on offense also featured the leagues rushing champion in DeMarco Murray with 1,845 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns to go along with the leagues leader in passer rating, Tony Romo, at 113.2. The Cowboys hope to ride their dominant ground game in the cold temperatures of Green Bay to a win.
In contrast the Cowboys going 8 and 0 on the road the Packers are 8 and 0 at home scoring an NFL high in points in home games for an average of 39.8. The Packers also enter the game on a three game winning streak over the Cowboys, having won a close game 37 to 36 in Dallas in December of 2013. The Packers are hoping to slow the rushing attack of Dallas via their improved rush defense that is yielding an average of 86.4 yards per game since moving linebacker Clay Matthews inside from his previous position as a pass rusher. The Packers also feature what many consider to be the best quarterback in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers who was only second to the Cowboys Romo in passer rating during the 2014 season at 112.2.
