The 7, 8 and 1 Carolina Panthers will travel this evening to take on the 12 and 4 Seattle Seahawks at their home field, Century Link Field. This will be the second game of the four Divisional Playoff games this weekend, following the four Wild-card Playoff games that took place last weekend. The Seattle Seahawks were home last weekend enjoying their bye week while the Carolina Panthers were facing the Arizona Cardinals. The Panthers defeated the Cardinals 27 to 16, largely behind a smothering defense that held Arizona to a shockingly low 78 yards of offense, to advance.
The defending Superbowl Champion Seattle Seahawks started out there season in defense of their Super Bowl title fairly slow, dropping 2 of their first 3 games. From that point on the Seahawks seemed to shake off their hangover, winning all but one more game the remainder of the season. Seattle, behind their solid 12 and 4 record, secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Seahawks also come in to this evening with the NFL's current longest winning streak, one that they hope to stretch out to seven straight games with a victory.
The playoffs most improbable team might be the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers entered December with a record of 3, 1 and 8 and marked as a teams that was sure to be sitting home in January. Then Carolina woke up and won their remaining games, earring a playoff spot, partially out of luck due to being in the worst division in the NFL. Despite their woeful record entering the postseason they were able to, in the Wild-card round last weekend, knock off one of the NFL's top teams in 2014, the Arizona Cardinals.
