Peterson was not at practice for the Vikings on Thursday, though it was described as a routine day off for the veteran running back.
No details of the exact cause of the charges have been released yet. According to Jay Glazer, Peterson has been cooperating with the investigation. With the indictment now made, Peterson will be required to turn himself in to authorities in Texas.
The Vikings face the New England Patriots this Sunday. Peterson's availability for the game is unclear, with Glazer adding that the Vikings are currently deciding what they will do with their All Pro running back. Kickoff for that game is at 1pm ET Sunday afternoon.
UPDATE 4:56pm ET:
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the charges stem from a disciplining incident involving Peterson's son and a switch.
