The last time these two teams met in at the Russel Athletic Bowl game Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals put it on the Hurricanes handing Miami a loss to the tune of 36-9 (I cried myself to sleep for a full week following that game). Since that blowout of the Canes much has changed for the Cards. Bridewater bolted for the NFL and head coach Charlie Strong likewise left town for a more high profile gig as the head man at the University of Texas. The team on the whole also took a step up in conference this season leaving the America Athletic Conference to join Miami in the much higher profile ACC.
Coach Al Golden will arrive in Louisville with the goal of spoiling their ACC debut on their home turf. Miami will no doubt be focused on showing the Cards and their new head man Bobby Petrino that they are not the same Canes team they saw 9 month earlier. Miami will be starting true freshman Brad Kaaya tonight. Word around the program is that Kaaya is the "real deal" and the best QB to arrive in Coral Gables in a long time. Another huge difference from last December for the Canes will be the return of their Heisman hopeful running back Duke Johnson. Duke is of course the kind of offensive player that can single handedly take over a game and Miami will no doubt lean heavily on him and his immense talent this evening as well as throughout the season.
