As of 4pm ET today, all 32 NFL teams had to complete the reduction of their 90-man rosters to the NFL's new 75-man maximum. For the Miami Dolphins, who began the day with 86 players, that meant 11 members of the roster would have to either be let go, or placed on injured reserve.
The first two cuts were leaked earlier today, with quarterback Brady Quinn having his contract terminated and wide receiver Armon Binns being waived. The full list of the roster moves has now been released.
Waived (7):
Armon Binns, wide receiver
Brett Brackett, tight end
Steven Clarke, cornerback
Rakim Cox, defensive end
Cory Grissom, defensive tackle
Tyler Larsen, center
Ryan Spadola, wide receiver
Nothing overly surprising here, other than the fact that some of these cuts came in the first round, instead of the second. The team could have held on to a player like Tyler Larsen, and tried to stash him on the practice squad.
Contract Terminated (1):
Brady Quinn, quarterback
Quinn was never really a threat to make the roster. He was a camp body, brought in to provide someone to throw passes and play in preseason games when Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore were no longer needed in the contest.
Placed on Injured Reserve (3):
A.J. Francis, defensive tackle
Mike Gillislee, running back
Arthur Lynch, tight end
Lynch being on injured reserve is not really a surprise, as he has struggled to practice or play during training camp and the preseason. Franics looked to be in position to be defensive tackle number four, behind the three rotating starters, but it appears his season is over already. Gilislee was thought to be pushing Daniel Thomas for, potentially, the last running back roster spot, which now will likely come down to Thomas or Marcus Thigpen.
IR isn't close to the way I envisioned my season, but I'm grateful that I'm still a part of this team all year. #StrongerTogether #PhinsUp
