The Miami Dolphins swapped linebackers today, according to a report from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Chris Perkins. The team signed Ryan Rau and waived/injured rookie Tariq Edwards.
Rau has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Carolina Panthers since joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Portland State in 2012. He made four appearances during his rookie year with the Eagles. He has also spent time with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Edwards joined the Dolphins after the NFL Draft back in May. He was expected to fight for a roster spot, or potentially a position on the practice squad. A right knee injury, however, has landed him on the waiver wire. Assuming Edwards clears waivers, he will then be placed on the Dolphins' Reserve/Injured list, where he will remain for the year, unless the team comes to an injury settlement with him.
The Dolphins return to the practice field tomorrow morning at 9:30, when they hold their annual scrimmage at Sun Life Stadium.
