The Miami Dolphins announced the signing of cornerback Anthony Gaitor yesterday, adding another depth piece to the secondary. The corresponding roster move was the waiving of running back Cameron Marshall.
Gaitor joins the Dolphins after three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 5', 10" corner appeared in 12 games, starting twice, for the Buccaneers after being a seventh round selection in the 2011 Draft. He missed all of the 2013 season with a torn ACL. Gaitor is a Miami native, having attended Miami Northwestern High School and played college football at Florida International.
Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey was the Buccaneers' Director of College Scouting when Gaitor was selected.
The other side of the roster move was the waiving of running back Cameron Marshall. The Dolphins originally signed Marshall in 2013, but he suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason and missed the entire year. He was signed to a futures contract with Miami after the season, but has once again been waived.
The Dolphins are currently carrying seven running backs on the roster, with Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller headlining the group. The team also has Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee, Damien Williams, Orleans Darkwa, and Marcus Thigpen currently on the roster. Thigpen is currently rehabbing a back injury.
After holding their second day of Organized Team Activities yesterday, the team has today off before another day of workouts on Friday.
