The Miami Dolphins have hired Eric Stokes as the team's new Assistant General Manager, according to reports from ESPN, the South-Florida Sun Sentinel, and the Palm Beach Post.  The position was previously held by Brian Gaine, who left the team after interviewing for the Miami General Manager position.  Gain has since been hired by the Houston Texans as the Director of Pro Scouting.

Stokes joins the Dolphins after two seasons as the Director of College Scouting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey was formerly the Buccaneers Director of Player Personnel before taking the Miami position this offseason.  Prior to Tampa Bay, Stokes worked for the Seattle Seahawks, starting as an area scout from 2000 to 2001 and 2005 to 2009, with a stint in the pro personnel department from 2002-2004.  In 2010, he was promoted to the Assistant Director of College Scouting, where he worked until joining the Buccaneers.

Stokes had a brief NFL career, starting with the Seahawks as a fifth round pick in 1997.  After two years in Seattle, Stokes was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the expansion draft in 1999, but an injury ended his career before he was able to get on the field for the Browns.

The Dolphins are currently working their way through signing undrafted free agents, with 20 under contract thus far and two open roster positions.
