All of a sudden there seems to be a trend in this draft; Miami are not afraid to select small school prospects. With the 171st overall selection, the Miami Dolphins add depth to their linebacker corps, a unit that suffered mightily in 2013.
Seemingly always around the ball, Tripp has recovered ten fumbles in his career with Montana. While listed as an outside linebacker, Tripp has the instincts to play on the inside. Very tough kid, and has good physicality when in run support. However, unlike some of the other linebacker prospects left in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Montana linebacker is also good in coverage, proving to be a tough matchup for running backs and tight ends.
All in all, Tripp fills a need, but also looks to have the skill set that the Dolphins want at the linebacker position. Don't be surprised if he ends up as a reserve at inside linebacker. This kid can play.
