Chris Johnson to be released by Titans; Could Dolphins have interest

The Tennessee Titans are slated to release running back Chris Johnson today. Could the Miami Dolphins enter the chase for CJ2K?

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans will officially end their ties with running back Chris Johnson today, releasing their 2008 first round draft pick, according to ESPN. Johnson has spent his entire six year career with the Titans, earning three Pro Bowls and a First Team All Pro selection during that time.

In 2009, Johnson ran for 2,006 yards on 358 carries, earning him the nickname "CJ2K." At the time, it was the fifth best rushing total for a single-season in league history (the Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson ran for 2,097 yards in 2012, taking the second overall posisition and pushing Johnson to sixth all-time).

The Miami Dolphins have been looking to upgrade their rushing attack this year. They already signed Knowshon Moreno to a one-year contract, but Johnson could be an interesting option. Johnson has never failed to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for a season, but has also carried the ball at least 250 times in all six seasons in the league.

Would the Dolphins consider adding Johnson, even with the addition of Moreno? Currently, the team is carrying Moreno, Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee, Marcus Thigpen, and Cameron Marshall at the position. Assuming Moreno and Miller are safe on the roster, adding Johnson would likely esnure Thomas was released, Gillislee and Thigpen may have to fight over one position on the roster, and Marshall would likely find himself on the practice squad for 2014.

What would you do if you were Dennis Hickey? Would CJ2K be on your radar? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
