The rumor mill begins again this afternoon, with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reporting that the team has engaged in conversations with Finely's representatives about a move to South Beach.
Finley is having another X-Ray and MRI on his neck in the next few weeks, and is hoping he will receive medical clearance to return to the NFL.
Of course Finely will be familiar to Philbin, who played under him in Green Bay when Philbin was offensive coordinator. Even before the 2013 season started, Miami was linked with a trade for the tight end.
During his six seasons in the NFL Finley has caught twenty touchdowns for 2,785 yards, in seventy games. Finley enjoyed a breakout year in 2011, catching eight touchdowns, before having an indifferent year in 2012 and, finally, seeing his form nosedive with injury in 2013.
Adding Finley to the Dolphins roster would provide the team with another tight end to stretch the field along with Charles Clay, and quite possibly relieving the need for the team to acquire a tight end in the draft.
Should Finely arrive in South Beach, expect him to earn a one-year ‘prove it' deal.
Would you like Jermichael Finely to arrive in Miami? Will he improve the team? Is he a good fit?
