Despite the Falcons poor record coming in to the night at 5 and 7, a win over the Green Bay Packers would give them a one game lead in the horrible NFC South. The odds seem to be against the Falcons defeating the Packers but they do come in to the night having won 3 of their 4 previous games including an impressive 29 to 18 victory over the Cardinals eight days ago. The win over the Cardinals also marked the first win of the season for the Falcons over someone other than a fellow NFC South team. The Falcons are perhaps also hoping that the Packers are "due" to drop a game as they have won their last 4 games in a row as well as 8 of their last 9.
The Packers can not only keep their streak of wins alive with a win this evening over the Falcons but can also continue to hold on to sole position of first place in the NFC North over the Detroit Lions after the Lions defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday. A division title in 2014 would give the Packers their fourth NFC North title in a row which would also set a franchise record. Winning will also help them to keep pace with the Arizona Cardinals in the race for home field advantage in the NFC. The Cardinals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday to bring their record to 10 and 3 on the season. Coming in to this game the Packers have defeated the Falcons in their last three head to head meetings.
