The Saturday evening game features two teams from the Golden State, one from each conference. The home team tonight, the San Francisco, 49ers have struggled all season long with injuries to big name players including linebacker Patrick Willis who had a toe injury and running back Frank Gore who suffered a concussion just last week. On top of that has been the rumors all season long that head coach Jim Harbaugh will be leaving for a new job at the end of the season despite having taken the team to the Super Bowl and three NFL Championship games in only a 4 year span. This has all resulted in a 7 and 7 record going in to week 16 of the season and the team missing the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Tonight's visiting team, the San Diego Chargers come in at 8 and 6 and know that they are fighting for a shot at the playoffs. Even if they are to win out and post a 10 and 6 record the Chargers will need some help from others to take the final wild card spot in the AFC. San Diego was in control of their own their own fate until dropping last weeks game to the Denver Broncos by a score of 22 to 10. Compounding the difficult task of winning out for the Chargers will be the loss of their leading wide receiver, Keenan Allen. Keenan injured his ankle in last weeks loss as well as breaking his collarbone. The Chargers will be looking to WR Malcom Floyd and TE Antonio Gates to step in in the final weeks of the season.
