R.J. Stanford is back with the Miami Dolphins, according to his agent David Canter.
Congratulations and welcome back to #TeamDEC client @RJStanford25 on signing with @MiamiDolphins
— DECManagement (@davidcanter) November 25, 2014
Stanford played for the Dolphins during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but finished last year on injured reserve with a broken leg. He spent the 2014 preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals, but was cut before the season began.
The Dolphins are in need of cornerback depth following injuries to starter Cortland Finnegan and his replacement Jamar Taylor over the pas few weeks. Finnegan injured his ankle against the Detroit Lions in Week 10 and has been unable to place since. Taylor, who has been starting in Finnegan's absence, suffered a dislocated shoulder this past week against the Denver Broncos and, though listed as "day-to-day," is expected to miss the next three weeks.
The Dolphins face the New York Jets this Monday night, with hopes that Finnegan may be able to return to the field.
No announcement has been made on how the Dolphins made the roster space for Stanford's signing.
