The Miami Dolphins beat the Oakland Raiders 38-14 in Week 4 of the NFL season, then had their bye week. After the Raiders game, we missed updating the Miami snap counts for both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. We correct that this morning with a look at the season snap count totals for Miami through the first quarter of the season.
First, the offense:
Perhaps the only surprise here are players like Matt Moore and Nate Garner picking up double digit snaps in the Raiders contest, thanks to the one-sided scoreline. The Dolphins will see another adjustment to the offensive line in the next week, as Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey returns from a hip injury that has kept him from any game action this year.
As for the defense:
A large number of the Miami starters found themselves on the sideline more than usual in Week 4, with players who had played every snap of the season (e.g., Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan) getting a break with the run-away win for the Dolphins. Miami also played some linebackers on defense for the first time this year, moving them from solely special teams players to contributors on defense as well.
The Dolphins host the Green Bay Packers this next weekend, a game not likely to see the same time of blowout win for the South Florida franchise. Because of that, we should see the starters take the vast majority of the snaps.
