San Diego Chargers vs Miami Dolphins: History of Matchup

The Miami Dolphins return home to Sun Life Stadium on Sunday, in their attempt to win 3 consecutive games in a row and boost their playoff chances. This week, the Dolphins are up against the San Diego Chargers.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Historically, the Miami Dolphins and the San Diego Chargers are a close matchup. Since their first game on October 2, 1996, the Miami Dolphins have won 13, to the chargers 12 in the regular season.  In the playoffs, each team has won two a piece.

This game holds good memories for myself, personally.  On December 19, 1999 I watched my first Dolphins game against the Chargers, albeit without seeing a single touchdown from either side, much to my disappointment at age 10!

From the 1995 to the 2008 regular season, the Dolphins held a 7 game winning streak over the Chargers, only for that to end on September 27, 2009.  The Chargers won again in October 2, 2011 before losing their most recent game on November 17, 2013.  You can check the individual stats from that game below.

Both teams need a win on Sunday to keep their playoff aspirations on track.  San Diego are coming off a two game losing streak, having won the previous five in a row.  The Dolphins on the other hand have won the last two games, and will be desperate to make it three in a row.

It's the San Diego Chargers against the Miami Dolphins this weekend.  Go Dolphins!
