The NFL's 2014 trade deadline is 4pm ET today, meaning we are just 30 minutes away from knowing if any team has made a deal. For the Miami Dolphins, that deal could be one to bolster a roster looking to make a playoff push in the second half of this year. But, will it happen?
There have been rumors circulating all day that the Dolphins could be looking to land Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin, but no fire has come out of all that smoke as of yet.
What is interesting for the Dolphins is general manager Dennis Hickey attended practice today, meaning he was not sitting in his office working the phones. Does that mean anything? Maybe not. He probably has a cell phone on him. He could have worked the skeleton of a deal already, and is at practice to confim that he and the coaches want to pull the trigger. The Dolphins could just not be talking to anyone about a deal, and Hickey does not feel the need to be in the office. Or, he could trust an assistant to handle the calls until a deal is closer, then Hickey will take over to finalize it.
There are lots of reasons Hickey could be at the Dolphins practice today. Reports still had him at practice as late as 3pm ET, just one hour before the deadline.
Whatever the case, the clock is ticking closer and closer to the deadline. Will Miami do anything? We will see.
