In the last couple of weeks I have noticed our usual annual chatter around the site as it applies to the roster, who we should cut, who we should sign and who of course we should draft. A lot of people will make suggestions to cut or trade a particular player without knowing the full ramifications as they apply to the salary cap. With that in mind I built this handy little chart as a reference. I have given every scenario short of if a player renegotiates or extends their current contract as those things are of course unpredictable.
To start out with the list of our own free agents-
Armon Binns, Nolan Carroll, Tyson Clabo, Chris Clemons, Pat Devlin, Jonathan Freeney, Brent Grimes, John Jerry, Marlon Moore, Richie Incognito, Dustin Keller, Bryant McKinnie, Chris Owens, Paul Soliai, Austin Spitler, RJ Stanford, Randy Starks, Danny Watkins, Will Yeatman
Some of those will obviously need to be resigned but others will be replaced. Like wise some players that are still under contract will be cut or possibly traded. Others who us fans or even the team might wish they could cut or trade will remain due to their cap number or the potential cap hit that the team would take by cutting them.
There is also the list of players that still count against the cap in the form of "dead money", meaning the player has been cut or traded but still has monies that will be counted in 2014 that have already been paid out, usually in the form of signing bonuses but can apply to guaranteed money in some cases.
