The Miami Dolphins will conduct final interviews for their vacant General Manager position this weekend, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reported today. A source told Salguero the team will interview at least two finalists for the position, and will look to have a GM hired by the Super Bowl on February 2.
The team could have the new GM in place as early as this Monday, according to Salguero's source.
Salguero's report also addressed an earlier report from NFL Network, in which it appeared the Dolphins had scrambled in an attempt to hire Jason Licht when it became apparent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were going to name him their new GM. Two sources, one close to Licht and one from the Dolphins, told Salguero that there was never an attempt by the Dolphins to hire Licht.
The Dolphins did call Licht and inform him that he would be among the finalists if he wanted to wait to see if he was offered Miami's job, but they did not try to steal him from the Buccaneers. Licht decided to take the Tampa Bay position rather than pass and hope he was hired by Miami.
