The Miami Dolphins will be facing the 14th ranked rush defense and the 30th ranked pass defense later today when they kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Through seven games, the Jaguars are 22nd in points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Which brings up the question, after having a top four scoring week among quarterbacks in Week 7, can Miami's Ryan Tannehill back it up with another dominating performance?
Jacksonville is allowing 27.3 points per game this year, along with their 280.1 yards through the air per game since the regular season started. Over the past three weeks, Tannehill, who seems to be getting comfortable in Bill Lazor's offensive system, the first new system Tannehill has had since high school after spending college and his first two NFL years in Mike Sherman's offense, in averaging 266.3 yards per game, with a 72-percent completion rate and six touchdowns to three interceptions. Over that span, he has broken 100 is passer rating twice, a 109.3 in Week 4 and a 123.6 last week, with the Week 6 game still higher than any of his first three games of the year at 83.3.
In other words, Tannehill is getting better as the year progresses.
Now he will face a Jaguars defense that, admittedly is getting better, but still is not a dominating facet to the game.
This week's bye schedule features Eli Manning and Colin Kaepernick, meaning you probably have a QB1 on your roster that you are going to use this week. Unless that player is Peyton Manning (in which case, you are already locked in - and I hope you got him into your roster because that Thursday night game was ridiculous), Andrew Luck, Drew Brees, or Aaron Rodgers, I would suggest you take a look at who your starter is playing this week, and how quarterbacks score against that opposing defense in your fantasy league. There is a chance, Tannehill could be a better play this week.
The Dolphins appear to be adjusting the offense, turning it into the system that perfectly compliments Tannehill. He should be able to keep up the fantasy scoring against the Jaguars this week.
