In the first game of the night the Philadelphia Eagles travel to the nations capital Landover Maryland to take on the Washington Redskins. The big question of the night for the Redskins will be can the former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III return to form following off season surgery on his knee to repair the ACL that was torn in the playoff game against the Seahawks. The second question everyone will be asking is was there really a riff between Griffin and head coach Mike Shanahan in the off season or was this just another example of the media making something out of nothing? On the other side of the ball we get to find out if Chip Kelly's over the top, super fast offensive scheme works with Michael Vick at the helm and will it, like so many others before it, kick off yet another fad in the NFL.
The second match-up of the evening sees the Houston Texas vs. the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. The Texans hope to once again roll out one of the best defenses in the NFL, led by 2012 AFC defensive player of the year, J.J. Watt. The Texans also look to once again be one of the most consistent offenses in the NFL led by QB Matt Schaubb, WR Andre Johnson (It's all about the U!) and RB Adrian Foster. The Chargers on the other hand hope to find their mojo again following yet another disappointing season. Despite having a wealth of talent on paper they once again managed to miss the playoffs, for the third consecutive year. Former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy takes over the helm for the Chargers and hopes to turn things around.
