The Miami Dolphins hosted free agent guard Danny Watkins on Monday for a tryout. Watkins was waived in the final round of roster cuts by the Philadelphia Eagles after starting 18 games (23 total appearances) in two seasons with the Eagles. Watkins was the Eagles' first round draft pick in 2011.
According to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora, Watkins will sign with the Dolphins. Watkins was garnering interest from other teams after clearing waivers, but appears headed for Miami.
However, the signing has not happened yet, despite internet speculation that it was a done deal. The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley asked Watkins' agent, Joe Panos, if a deal was done with Miami. Panos replied, "Not true. I'm his agent. I think I would know."
It appears Watkins will join the Dolphins, likely as insurance behind John Jerry who is still recovering from a knee injury.
