The Miami Dolphins released their first depth chart of the 2013 regular season yesterday, and the first thing to notice is that the team clearly labeled it "2013 MIAMI DOLPHINS TENTATIVE DEPTH CHART." Yep, that tentative word is still in the title.
According to the press release, here is the offense for the Dolphins:
Offense | ||||||||
WR | 82 | Brian Hartline | 10 | Brandon Gibson
LT | 71 | Jonathan Martin | 72 | Will Yeatman
LG | 68 | Richie Incognito | 70 | Dallas Thomas
C | 51 | Mike Pouncey | 64 | Josh Samuda
RG | 74 | John Jerry | ||||||
RT | 77 | Tyson Clabo | 75 | Nate Garner
TE | 42 | Charles Clay | 80 | Dion Sims | 84 | Michael Egnew
WR | 11 | Mike Wallace | 18 | Rishard Matthews
QB | 17 | Ryan Tannehill | 8 | Matt Moore | 7 | Pat Devlin
FB | 40 | Tyler Clutts | ||||||
RB | 26 | Lamar Miller | 33 | Daniel Thomas | 34 | Marcus Thigpen | 23 | Mike Gillislee |
Nothing overly surprising on the offense. Dion Sims does jump ahead of Michael Egnew, but all three tight ends (along with Charles Clay) will see playing time, and Sims is a better blocker than Egnew, so second on the depth chart makes sense. Marcus Thigpen is still listed as a running back, but he will likely serve mostly as the fifth wide receiver if needed.
Defense | ||||||||
LE | 91 | Cameron Wake | 79 | Derrick Shelby
DT | 94/98 | Randy Starks / Jared Odrick
DT | 96 | Paul Soliai | ||||||
RE | 50 | Olivier Vernon | 90 | Vaughn Martin | 95 | Dion Jordan
LB | 52 | Philip Wheeler | 56 | Jonathan Freeny
LB | 59 | Dannell Ellerbe | 53 | Jelani Jenkins
LB | 55 | Koa Misi | 93 | Jason Trusnik | 57 | Josh Kaddu
CB | 21 | Brent Grimes | 28 | Nolan Carroll | 25 | R.J. Stanford | 22 | Jamar Taylor |
CB | 24 | Dimitri Patterson | 29 | Will Davis
S | 30 | Chris Clemons | 27 | Jimmy Wilson | 36 | Don Jones
S | 20 | Reshad Jones | 37 | Kelcie McCray |
The defense does have at least one thing of note. Randy Starks and Jared Odrick are still listed as co-starters. On the Dolphins' website, Starks is listed as the starter, with Odrick on the second team. In the end, both players are going to see plenty of snaps, so which is listed as the starter and which is the reserve does not really matter, but to them personally, the battle this week is probably a matter of pride.
"We haven't really decided yet, we have practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday a walk through Saturday," Miami head coach Joe Philbin replied yesterday when asked about the starters on the defensive line. "We're going to finalize our play time at the end of the week."
Special Teams | ||||||||
P | 2 | Brandon Fields | ||||||
K | 9 | Caleb Sturgis | ||||||
KO | 9 | Caleb Sturgis | ||||||
H | 2 | Brandon Fields | ||||||
KOR | 34 | Marcus Thigpen | ||||||
PR | 34 | Marcus Thigpen | ||||||
LS | 92 | John Denney |
Nothing of note on the special teams. The team did not fill the reserve kick and punt returner positions after the release of DeAndre Presley. Other than that, it's exactly as expected.
Anything of note jump out at you about the "tentative" depth chart?
