The Miami Dolphins came away with a 27-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons yesterday, despite being able to generate little pass rush throughout most of the game. Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake was stuck on the sidelines with a knee injury, leaving Derrick Sheby, Olivier Vernon, and rookie Dion Jordan to attempt to generate pressure. Now, it appears, when the Dolphins head to New Orleans for Monday Night Football next week, those three guys will again be called upon while Wake sits out again.
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly, Wake has sprained his medial collateral ligament in his left knee. The injury is described as "mild" following an MRI today, but Wake is likely going to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.
Wake recorded 2.5 sacks in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, but did not get one against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 or in his limited snaps yesterday. If Wake records 14 or more sacks this season, he will become just the second player in league history with 14+ sacks in three of his first five seasons, joining Reggie White.
The 3-0 Dolphins face the 3-0 Saints on Monday, followed by the 2-1 defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in Week 5. Miami's bye week is Week 6 this season.
