Dolphins Rookie Report Card: Week 2

Each week, we'll grade the performance of each 2013 Miami Dolphins draft pick and comment on their development. Here's the second round of grades of the season after Miami's 24-20 Week 2 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

DE Dion Jordan (1st Round Pick, 3rd overall). Grade: C

Jordan was in on just eight defensive plays Sunday, down from his Week 1 total of 18. The game was close throughout and the Colts were rarely in obvious passing situations, which is likely the reason why Jordan played so few snaps.

When on the field, Miami used Jordan in coverage and in the pass rush, where he missed an opportunity for a sack on Andrew Luck on his only quarterback pressure of the day. It's been a cause for debate, but it appears Jordan thought the ball had been thrown so he pulled up and didn't finish the sack.

That was his only notable moment, and other than a tackle on kick coverage, he had little impact on his second NFL game.

Season GPA: 1.85

CB Jamar Taylor (2nd Round Pick, 54th overall). Grade: I (Incomplete)

Taylor's short-term prognosis is reportedly not good, so it may be a while before the second rounder makes his Dolphins debut.

Season GPA: N/A

OL Dallas Thomas (3rd Round Pick, 77th overall). Grade: I (Incomplete)

Thomas was a healthy scratch for the second week in a row. Expect that to be the case most of season, barring injury to one of the starters.

Season GPA: N/A

CB Will Davis (3rd Round Pick, 93rd overall). Grade: I (Incomplete)

Like Taylor, Davis is still recovering from an injury, but Miami figures to have him back relatively soon.

Season GPA: N/A

LB Jelani Jenkins (4th Round Pick, 104th overall). Grade: C

Jenkins was on the active roster, but didn't record a defensive snap. He did make one tackle in special teams work.

Season GPA: 2.15

Dion Sims (4th Round Pick, 106th overall). Grade: C

Sims seems to be the clear No.2 tight end after recording 34 snaps on Sunday. He still has yet to catch a regular season pass and has made no significant contribution other than blocking so far this season. Pro Football Focus gave him a negative grade for his run blocking work against the Colts.

As the Dolphins offensive line continues to struggle, expect Sims to be kept on the line as an extra blocker in both the running game and the passing game.

Season GPA: 2.0

RB Mike Gillislee (5th Round Pick, 164th overall). Grade: I (Incomplete)

Gillislee was inactive again.

Season GPA: N/A

K Caleb Sturgis (5th Round Pick, 166th overall). Grade: A

Sturgis only kicked one field goal, a 54-yarder that tied the game going into halftime. He actually attempted the kick twice because Colts coach Chuck Pagano called the infamous 'ice the kicker' timeout just before the snap of the first one, but both kicks were blasted directly between the uprights and would have been good from 60 yards.

It seems that this Sturgis kid is pretty good.

Season GPA: 4.0

DB Don Jones (7th Round Pick, 250th overall). Grade: C

Don Jones was a special teams standout in Week 1, but made no notable impact this week.

Season GPA: 2.5
